The Cities and Townships We Serve
Right On Sod runs out of Kitchener and covers four cities and two townships as standard, with no travel surcharge anywhere inside that area. The ground is not the same across it. Soil depth, drainage and the age of the housing stock change noticeably from one municipality to the next, and they change what a lawn actually needs. Here is what we find in each, and where to read the detail.

Kitchener
The ground: Kitchener splits in two. Subdivisions built since the late 1990s sit on compacted clay subsoil that the builder graded flat and topped with barely two inches of screened soil, so water pools and roots stall. The established east and south ends have deeper soil but decades of thatch underneath and heavy white grub pressure every August.

Waterloo
The ground: Waterloo's west side is the newest ground we work on. Vista Hills and Clair Hills were farmland inside the last twenty years, and what is left after construction is a thin skin of topsoil over clay till. Westmount has the opposite problem: mature silver maples, deep shade and surface root competition that ordinary sod cannot survive without a change of approach.

Cambridge
The ground: Cambridge is three former towns that amalgamated in 1973 and never really merged. Galt sits on shallow soil over limestone, so depth to bedrock decides how much grading is even possible. Preston and Hespeler run down toward the Speed and Grand rivers, where the flats hold moisture into late spring and the older lots carry far more slope than they appear to.

Guelph
The ground: Guelph is Wellington County rather than Waterloo Region, and the soil shows it — limestone-derived and generally draining better than Kitchener clay. The trade-off is stone. The Ward and the older core have tight lots and rear-lane access that decides what equipment we can bring in, while the south end is newer builds on the usual builder-grade subsoil.

Woolwich Township
The ground: Woolwich takes in Elmira, St Jacobs, Conestogo, Breslau and Bloomingdale. Lawns here are bigger, often half an acre or more, and a great many properties run on a well rather than city water. That changes the watering schedule we hand you at the end of the job, because you cannot run sprinklers for two weeks straight without thinking about the pump.

North Dumfries
The ground: North Dumfries covers Ayr, Branchton and Roseville — country lots with septic beds, long driveways and mature windbreaks. We plan machine access before we quote rather than after, because a septic field decides where a skid steer can travel and a windbreak decides how much of the old lawn comes out by hand.

The same standard in every town we serve
The soil changes across the region. What we bring to it does not. Every job on this list is done by our own crew rather than a subcontractor, using the same farm-fresh Kentucky Bluegrass cut the morning it is laid, and the same sequence: strip the old lawn out completely, grade the base, add screened topsoil where the depth is short, then lay fresh turf tight against itself the same day.
There is no distance charge anywhere inside the service area, whether you are five minutes from the yard in Kitchener or out past Ayr. Most residential lawns are finished in a single day, and you get a watering schedule written for your particular yard and soil rather than a generic leaflet.

What homeowners across the region ask before booking — about distance, timing, and whether we come out to their street at all.
Do you charge extra to travel outside Kitchener?
No. Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, Guelph, Woolwich and North Dumfries are all standard service area, and a quote in Ayr or Elmira is priced the same way as one in downtown Kitchener. Distance only becomes a factor well outside the region, and we will tell you that on the phone before we book a visit rather than adding it to an invoice afterwards.
How far do you actually go?
As a rule of thumb, roughly forty minutes from Kitchener in any direction. That comfortably covers the whole of Waterloo Region plus Guelph, and reaches communities such as Elmira, St Jacobs, Breslau, Ayr and New Hamburg. Beyond that it depends on the size of the job — a large property can still make sense at a greater distance where a small front lawn would not.
My street is not listed on this page. Do you still come out?
Almost certainly, yes. The pages here cover the areas we work in most often, not the limit of where we go. The boundary is a service radius rather than a wall. Call and tell us the address, and you will get a straight answer on the phone instead of finding out after a site visit has already been booked.
Do you work across the whole region at the same time of year?
Yes. Spring, from roughly late April once the frost is out of the ground, and early autumn through to mid-October are the two strongest windows everywhere we serve, and we install right through summer with a tighter watering plan. Rural properties on well water are the one case where we will sometimes steer you toward the cooler windows deliberately, to keep the watering demand manageable.
