Sod Installation In Centreville Chicopee, Kitchener
A thin, patchy front lawn under a young maple in Centreville Chicopee, Kitchener, replaced with farm-fresh Kentucky bluegrass sod over two days, 16 and 17 June 2026, and photographed by our crew from the sod cutter to the sprinkler.
The Job at a Glance
This is one of the landscaping projects across Waterloo Region we have photographed: a corner front lawn under a young maple at a brick home in Centreville Chicopee, replaced by our crew and photographed from the first morning of the job to the first watering. The service itself is described on our Centreville Chicopee sod installation page.
🍂
Before
What we saw: Thin, patchy grass across a corner front lawn edged with river rock, worn to bare ground under the young maple and along the driveway. The lawn had thinned out rather than died in one place.
If this looks like your lawn: For this lawn, the fix was a full tear-out and regrade rather than patching. Frames 1 and 2 in the gallery below show the lawn on the afternoon of 16 June 2026, with the sod cutter already on it.
📋
The Quote
The estimate covered: A full tear-out of the old turf rather than patching, fresh topsoil graded around the maple and out to the river-rock border, and farm-fresh Kentucky bluegrass sod across the whole corner lawn.
Also included: Watering-in guidance for the first weeks and our 100% sod warranty: any piece that arrives unhealthy is replaced free of charge. Estimate requests get a reply within 24 hours.

The Solution
The work: On the afternoon of 16 June the crew ran the sod cutter across the old lawn and barrowed the turf off, leaving bare ground around the maple by mid-afternoon.
The result: On the morning of 17 June fresh topsoil was spread, graded around the maple and rolled firm. The new sod was down and the sprinkler running by early afternoon.
Why Kentucky Bluegrass Was the Right Sod for This Centreville Chicopee Lawn
Right On Sod installs 100% farm-fresh Kentucky bluegrass, the same turf described on our Kitchener sod installation page. Three reasons it suits a lawn like this one.
❄️
Cold-Hardy for Ontario Winters
The challenge: Kitchener lawns sit frozen for months and go through repeated freeze-thaw cycles every spring.
Why bluegrass: Kentucky bluegrass is a cool-season grass that is cold-hardy, so it comes through Ontario winters and greens up again in spring.
🌿
Handles Dappled Shade Under Trees
The challenge: The young maple throws moving shade across the middle of this lawn for part of every day, and thin grass had given up beneath it.
Why bluegrass: Kentucky bluegrass does best in sun but tolerates the broken, moving shade of a deciduous canopy as long as it gets four or more hours of light a day. A corner lot like this one gets light from two sides, which is what makes bluegrass workable under the tree.
☀️
Thrives on Sun and a Simple Routine
The challenge: Kentucky bluegrass wants four to six or more hours of sun a day, and new sod is only as good as its first weeks: rolls that dry out before they root stay loose on the soil.
Why bluegrass: With daily watering for the first two weeks or so, Kentucky bluegrass sod roots into the topsoil in two to three weeks, which is why the sprinkler was running on this lawn the same afternoon it was laid.

How We Replaced This Lawn, Step by Step

Assess the Lawn and Quote the Job
What we assessed: thin, patchy grass across the corner lawn, bare under the maple and along the driveway edge. Rather than patch it, the estimate covered a full tear-out, fresh topsoil graded to the river-rock border, and farm-fresh Kentucky bluegrass sod.
Cut Out and Haul Away the Old Turf
On the afternoon of 16 June the crew ran a sod cutter across the old lawn and barrowed the turf off the property. Stripping it rather than tilling it in means the tired grass and its thatch leave instead of being buried under the new sod.

Grade Fresh Topsoil Around the Maple
On the morning of 17 June fresh topsoil was spread across the bare ground, graded level around the trunk of the maple and out to the river-rock border, then rolled firm so the new sod would sit on an even, settled bed.
Lay the Kentucky Bluegrass Sod and Fit the Edges
The rolls went down across the corner lawn on 17 June and were fitted around the maple and tight to the river-rock border and the sidewalk. The frames jump from the rolled topsoil to the finished lawn, which was down by early afternoon.

Water In and Hand Over Care Instructions
The sprinkler was running on the new lawn by early afternoon on 17 June. New sod needs daily watering for the first two weeks or so and roots in two to three weeks, and the homeowner got watering-in guidance to see it through. Every install carries our 100% sod warranty.
